P0107: Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Circuit Low
The MAP sensor voltage is stuck too low, so the computer thinks there is extremely high vacuum in the intake.
What P0107 means
P0107 is an electrical code. RepairPal explains that it sets when MAP sensor voltage stays under about 0.5 volts for 10 seconds or more while throttle, RPM and oxygen sensor values are changing. A normal MAP signal sits roughly between 1 and 4.5 volts depending on load, so a reading that low suggests a short to ground, an open 5 volt reference or a dead sensor. Many sensors share the same 5 volt reference circuit, so if you also see throttle position or other low voltage codes, a shorted sensor on that shared circuit could be pulling everything down. Shops check the connector with the key on for a steady 5 volts, a good ground and the signal voltage. If the reference voltage is missing, they look for a damaged wire or a shorted sensor elsewhere on the circuit before blaming the computer. The engine may still run, but its load calculation is wrong, so fuel and timing will be off until it is fixed.
Common symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Hard starting
- Hesitation or stumbling
- Poor gas mileage
- Lean or rough running
Most common causes
- Faulty MAP sensor
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Open in the 5 volt reference wire
- Corroded or loose MAP connector
- Damaged wiring near hot engine parts
What to check yourself first
Unplug the MAP sensor and check the connector for corrosion or bent pins. Follow the harness for melted or rubbed spots. With the key on and the engine off, a scan tool MAP reading should be close to outside air pressure, not near zero.
Typical fixes and what they cost
| Fix | Typical cost | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Replace MAP sensor | $201-$242 | Only after power, ground and signal are confirmed good. |
| Electrical diagnosis to find a wiring or connector fault | $122-$179 | RepairPal lists shorts to ground and open reference circuits as common misdiagnoses. |
| Check engine light diagnosis at a shop | $125-$183 | Useful when several sensors on the shared 5 volt reference circuit are setting codes at once. |
Typical US price ranges for parts and labor, not quotes. Your shop should confirm the cause with a diagnostic before replacing parts.
