P0200: Injector Circuit/Open
The engine computer has detected an electrical problem in the fuel injector circuits, not tied to one specific cylinder.
What P0200 means
The engine computer opens each fuel injector by grounding its circuit through a transistor called a driver, while a fused feed supplies power. RepairPal explains that P0200 means the computer has found a problem in the operation of the injector circuit. Since it is not tied to a single cylinder, shops look first at anything the injectors share: the power feed, a fuse or relay, a common connector or a harness section. A failed injector or a plugged injector can also set it on some engines. RepairPal notes that injectors and computers are often replaced when the actual problem was wiring and connections. You may notice a misfire, rough idle or poor mileage, and KBB says experts do not recommend driving with injector circuit codes because misfires can damage the engine. A shop checks for power at each injector, uses a noid light to confirm the computer is pulsing it, and measures injector resistance. The fix depends on which part of the circuit fails those tests.
Common symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Misfire and rough idle
- Hesitation or loss of power
- Poor fuel economy
- Hard starting in some cases
Most common causes
- Faulty fuel injector
- Corroded or damaged injector wiring or connectors
- Loss of power to the injector circuit (blown fuse or relay)
- Plugged or dirty injector
- Engine computer injector driver failure
What to check yourself first
Check the fuse that feeds the injectors, often labeled INJ or EFI. Look along the injector harness for damage from rodents, heat or a past repair. Note whether any cylinder specific codes like P0201 to P0204 are set too.
Typical fixes and what they cost
| Fix | Typical cost | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Electrical diagnosis to find a wiring or connector fault | $122-$179 | Checks the shared injector power feed, fuse and harness first. |
| Replace fuel injector | $768-$953 | If one or more injectors test open or shorted. |
| Replace fuel pump or injector relay | $89-$108 | On cars where the injectors and pump share a relay. |
| Replace engine control module (ECM/PCM) | $1,122-$1,192 | Only after wiring and injectors are proven good. |
Typical US price ranges for parts and labor, not quotes. Your shop should confirm the cause with a diagnostic before replacing parts.
