A compact pickup that won't start in the driveway is annoying. One that loses power or its hazard lights on the road is worse, and that's why Ford treated the Maverick's 12-volt battery problems as a safety recall instead of just a warranty item. Here's what you need to know.
The Maverick 12V battery recalls in plain English
| Recall | Ford # | Years | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24V267 | 24S24 | 2022-2023 Maverick (and 2021-2024 Bronco Sport) | Recalibrates body and powertrain control modules so they detect a falling 12V battery charge |
| 24V590 | 24S50 | Some 2022 Mavericks already repaired under 24V267 | Repeats the recalibration |
| 25V158 | 25S26 | 2022-2023 Mavericks repaired incorrectly under 24V267 | Repeats the recalibration correctly |
| 25V019 | 25S02 | 2022-2023 Maverick (and 2021-2023 Bronco Sport), 272,817 vehicles | Inspects the 12V battery and replaces it if needed |
NHTSA's records say a failed or undetected weak 12V battery can cause loss of electrical accessories, including the hazard lights, or even loss of drive power. Owner letters for 25V019 went out in May 2025, and the record notes that trucks fixed under 24V267 still need the newer remedy.
Signs your Maverick's 12V battery is the problem
RepairPal's battery page lists the classic symptoms, and they apply to the hybrid and EcoBoost Maverick alike:
- Dim interior lights or a dim screen when you get in
- Rapid clicking, slow cranking, or the truck not powering up at all
- A battery warning light while driving
- Random electrical glitches right before it dies
- It starts fine after a jump, then dies again a day or two later
Jump-starting gets you going, but it doesn't fix a battery that's failing internally. If you're jumping the truck more than once, get the battery and charging system tested.
Battery, starter or alternator?
- Battery: dies overnight, jump works, load test shows weak capacity. RepairPal notes a battery that can't hold 10 volts or more under load likely needs replacing.
- Starter: lights and radio work fine, but you get a single click or nothing when you press start. RepairPal's Maverick page lists a reported no-start fixed by a new starter.
- Alternator: battery light comes on while driving, lights dim, and it eventually stalls. RepairPal lists Maverick alternator replacement at $1,102 to $1,360 for 2022 and $543 to $646 for 2025-2026.
What it costs if you're not covered
| Repair | Maverick years | RepairPal estimate |
|---|---|---|
| 12V battery replacement | 2022, 2025, 2026 | $315 to $355 |
| 12V battery replacement | 2023, 2024 | $505 to $647 |
| Alternator replacement | 2022 | $1,102 to $1,360 |
| Alternator replacement | 2025-2026 | $543 to $646 |
| Recall battery inspection or replacement (25V019) | 2022-2023 | $0 at a Ford dealer |
Easy things to try first
- Check recalls on your VIN before buying a battery.
- Look at the terminals. Fuzzy white or green corrosion or a loose clamp can mimic a dead battery.
- Think about short trips. Lots of quick errands, especially in cold weather, can keep any battery from fully charging.
- Get a free test. Many parts stores load-test batteries for free.
- Use a battery maintainer if the truck sits for weeks at a time.
What to ask the dealer or shop
- "Are recalls 25S02, 24S24, 24S50 and 25S26 complete on my VIN?"
- "Did the battery fail a load test? Can I see the printout?"
- "Did you test the charging system and check for a parasitic drain?"
- "Is the replacement battery an OEM Motorcraft unit, and what's the warranty?"
- "If you're replacing the starter or alternator, how did you rule out the battery?"
Is it worth fixing?
Of course. A battery is a routine wear item, and on a 2022-2023 Maverick the recall may cover it outright. The bigger point is safety: a battery that can suddenly drop out can take your hazard lights or drive power with it, so get the recall work done even if the truck seems fine today.
