The 2023 Accord redesign leaned hard into hybrids, and most trims sold are Accord Hybrids. That's great for fuel economy. It also means a lot of what owners call 'brake problems' are really electronics problems that show up as brake warnings. Let's sort it out.
The scary one: lost power plus a brake warning
NHTSA's complaint database is full of the same story from 2023-2025 Accord Hybrid owners: driving along, the dash lights up with brake system, tire pressure, stability and steering warnings, the gas pedal stops doing anything, and the car coasts to a stop. Restarting usually clears it. CarComplaints counted 45 NHTSA reports of this on the 2023 Accord, at an average of just 793 miles.
In November 2025 Honda recalled 256,603 2023-2025 Accord Hybrids for it. Per Carscoops and NHTSA, the integrated control module's CPU can reset because of a software flaw, and the supplier "did not fully understand the component specifications." Honda reported 832 related warranty claims and no injuries.
| Detail | What it means |
|---|---|
| Recall | 25V785 |
| Vehicles | 2023-2025 Accord Hybrid |
| Problem | Integrated control module CPU resets, causing loss of drive power |
| What you see | Multiple warnings including "Brake System Problem," no acceleration |
| Fix | Dealer reprograms the software, free |
Other recalls on the 2023+ Accord
- 23V588 (2023 Accord Hybrid and CR-V Hybrid): The electronic transmission may have been built wrong, which can cause loss of drive power.
- 24V763 (2023-2024 Accord and Accord Hybrid): The high-pressure fuel pump can crack and leak.
- 24V859 and 26V054: Driver's seat cushion frame may be loose on some 2023-2024 Accords.
- 23V782 (2023-2024 Accord): Front seat belt pretensioners may be missing a rivet.
Phantom braking
The other big theme is the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) slamming the brakes with nothing ahead. Owners of 2023, 2024 and 2025 Accords report it at highway speeds, in turn lanes next to other cars, and while passing trucks. One 2023 owner said the dealer tried replacing the front camera. There's no recall for this on the Accord. Your best moves:
- Keep the windshield in front of the camera spotless, inside and out
- Note the speed, road, weather and whether adaptive cruise was on
- Save dash cam video if you have it
- Ask the dealer for any software updates and file an NHTSA complaint
Real brake wear: what it costs
| Job | Where | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|
| Recall 25V785 reprogramming | Honda dealer | $0 |
| Brake pads, 2023-2025 Accord | Independent shop | $273 to $330 (RepairPal) |
| Brake pads, one axle, 2023 Accord | Honda dealer | $314 to $370 (KBB: parts $110-$130, labor $204-$240) |
| Electric parking brake fault | Honda dealer | Usually warranty under 3 years/36,000 miles |
Hybrid Accords use regenerative braking, so the friction brakes do less work and pads often last longer than on the gas 1.5T. Some owners also report "Electric Parking Brake Problem" messages, which need a scan, not new pads.
Signs it really is pads or rotors
- Squealing that comes and goes with light braking
- Grinding or scraping that doesn't fade after a few stops
- A shaking wheel or pulsing pedal
- The car pulling to one side when you brake
What to ask the dealer
- "Is recall 25V785 done on my VIN? What about 23V588 and 24V763?"
- "What codes were stored when the brake warning came on?"
- "Is there a CMBS or camera software update?"
- "Front, rear or both pads? How much is left?"
Is it worth fixing?
Yes. The scariest Accord brake warnings are covered by a free recall, and the rest of the electronic weirdness should be warranty work on a car this new. Normal pad jobs are a few hundred dollars. Just don't ignore a car that loses power. Get it in and get it documented.
