Few things shrink a Camaro owner's smile like hearing "you need four tires." The sixth-gen (2016-2024) car runs big, low-profile rubber, often staggered, and sometimes run-flat. That combo affects your options when one goes flat and your budget when they wear out. Here's how it all works.

What tires your Camaro came with

When the sixth-gen launched for 2016, Goodyear won the exclusive factory tire deal. Per Modern Tire Dealer:

SSGoodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 RunOnFlat (summer)245/40ZR20 front, 275/35ZR20 rear

Goodyear said its RunOnFlat tech lets you drive up to 50 miles at up to 50 mph on a deflated tire. Later model years and packages may use different tires, so check your sidewalls for a run-flat marking (Goodyear uses "ROF") and your door-jamb placard for sizes.

What replacement tires cost

Those Mavis prices are for non-run-flat all-season tires (Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season and Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4). Plenty of owners switch away from run-flats when replacing, but if you do, you'll need a plan for flats (more below). Mounting, balancing, valve stems and disposal usually add to the bill, so ask for the out-the-door price.

Rotation: it's complicated on staggered cars

RepairPal notes that rotation may not be possible on some cars because of directional tread or different sizes front and rear. That's the SS: with a wider rear tire, you can't swap front to back. On a staggered car, the realistic plan is to keep the alignment in spec, watch the rears (they usually wear first on a V8 car), and replace in pairs. On cars with the same size at all four corners, rotate every 5,000 to 7,500 miles per RepairPal, or follow your owner's manual.

Flat tire? Here are your options

  • Run-flat tires: Drive gently to a shop, staying within Goodyear's 50 miles at 50 mph. Many tire makers don't recommend repairing run-flats that were driven flat, so be ready to replace it.
  • Regular tires: Many sixth-gen Camaros don't carry a spare. If yours has a sealant and compressor kit, Chevrolet says these kits handle tread punctures up to 1/4 inch, not sidewall damage. After using one, stay under 55 mph and get the tire inspected or repaired within 100 miles.
  • Sidewall cut or big gash: That's a replacement, not a repair. Call roadside assistance.

What owners run into

NHTSA complaints for this generation include a 2016 Camaro whose tire was damaged by a pothole, and 2016 and 2019 owners reporting cracked wheels without obvious impact. A 2022 owner reported tread separation on factory Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 tires after about 2,000 miles. If you see a bulge, a cracked rim, or feel a new vibration at speed, have it checked right away.

Easy things to check

  • Pressure monthly, cold, against the door placard. Low-profile tires hide low pressure well.
  • Inner edge wear. Sporty alignment settings can wear the inside shoulder first. Look behind the tire, not just at the face.
  • Tread depth across the rears, since they usually go first on staggered cars.
  • Wheel lips for cracks or bends after big potholes.

What to ask the tire shop

  • "Is this a run-flat? Can it be repaired, or is it replace-only?"
  • "What's the out-the-door price with mounting, balancing and TPMS service?"
  • "Do you have the staggered sizes in stock for both axles?"
  • "Do you recommend an alignment, and can you show me the before readings?"
  • "If I switch off run-flats, what flat-tire kit do you suggest?"

Is it worth replacing?

You don't have much choice, since tires are your Camaro's only contact with the road. To make them last, keep pressures right, get an alignment when you replace tires or hit a big pothole, and replace in axle pairs on staggered cars.
