The 2024-and-newer Charger is a whole new car. It launched as the Charger Daytona EV in R/T and Scat Pack trims, then added the Sixpack, a gas version with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six, for 2025. Both are heavy. Motor Authority lists the Daytona Scat Pack at 5,838 pounds. Heavy, quick cars eat brakes, but the EV gets help from regenerative braking.
What a Charger brake job costs
| Job | Who | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Pads, one axle, 2024 Charger Daytona | Dealer (KBB, Columbus OH ZIP) | $270 to $316 |
| Pads plus rotors | Dealer or shop | More than pads alone, especially with big Brembo rotors; get a written quote |
| Brake warning lights, brake software faults | Dodge dealer | Usually $0 under 3-year/36,000-mile warranty |
| Track Package Brembo pads and rotors | Dealer | Ask for parts pricing before you approve the job |
RepairPal and KBB didn't have Sixpack-specific pad prices when we checked, so treat the Daytona dealer number as a starting point. A good independent shop can usually beat dealer labor on a basic pad swap.
How regen changes brake wear on the Daytona EV
The Daytona has three levels of regenerative braking you pick with the paddle shifters, according to Motor Authority. There's no one-pedal mode. Regen slows the car using the motors, which means the friction brakes do less work in normal driving.
That's mostly good news. Tire Review points out that regen cuts pad wear but doesn't eliminate it, because you still need the friction brakes for hard stops and low-speed stops. EVs are also heavier, so the pads work harder when they do get used. And because the pads sit idle more, corrosion becomes a bigger enemy. Rusty pads can lose grip or have friction material separate from the backing plate.
Brake-related problems owners have reported
NHTSA lists the electric Charger under "Charger EV." As of October 2026 it shows 23 complaints for the 2024 and 39 for the 2025. Electrical system complaints lead both years. Brake-tagged reports are fewer, but they include:
- Brake, ABS and automatic emergency braking warnings appearing together with electrical faults.
- Regen braking suddenly unavailable, sometimes during a limp-mode event. One owner described the car slowing quickly when it dropped into limp mode with regen set to level 2.
- A report of brakes not holding the car when driver-assist systems brought it to a stop on a hill.
- One owner reported smoking rear brakes after a no-start event, which points to a dragging caliper or parking brake.
Dodge has been fixing many Daytona glitches with dealer software updates. Mopar Insiders reported a big bundle of updates (about 25 fixes) that reprograms the battery pack, drive units and vehicle control modules, taking four to five hours at the dealer.
Recalls to check
- 25V574 (2024-2025 Charger EV): a spring in the electric drive module can be installed wrong, so Park may not hold. Dealers replace the drive module free.
- 26V262 (2024-2025 Charger EV): instrument panel display can fail. Free software update.
- 25V389 (2024-2025 Charger EV): missing pedestrian warning sound. Free update.
None of these are brake recalls, but the Park recall matters. Until it's done, set the parking brake every time.
DIY or shop?
A pad swap on a regular R/T is doable for an experienced DIYer. On an EV, though, there's more to it: the car has orange high-voltage cables, many modern cars use an electric parking brake at the rear calipers, and some need a service mode or scan tool before you push the pistons back. If you're not sure, let the dealer or an EV-savvy shop handle it.
What to ask the shop
- "Is this price per axle? Front, rear or both?"
- "Do I have the standard brakes or the Brembo package?"
- "Are the rotors rusted or actually worn?"
- "Are all recalls and software updates done on my VIN?"
- "Is any brake warning covered under warranty?"
Is it worth fixing?
Yes, always. Brakes are a safety item, and on a new Charger most brake warnings should be warranty work right now. For normal wear, budget about $270 to $316 per axle at a dealer and more for big Brembos.
