A brake pedal that sinks lower than usual is one of those things you shouldn't ignore, and on a 2015-2018 Edge there's a specific reason to be suspicious. Ford has recalled brake hoses on these years twice. Here's what's going on and what normal brake maintenance costs on the rest of the Edge lineup.
The two brake hose recalls
Front hoses, recall 20V469 (2020): Ford recalled 2015-2018 Edges and 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX SUVs because the front brake hoses could rupture early, leak fluid and lengthen stopping distances. Dealers replace them with hoses made from a revised braid material, free.
Rear jounce hoses, recall 25V544 (2025): After NHTSA opened an investigation (PE24-027) in October 2024 over rear hose failures, Ford recalled about 499,129 2015-2018 Edges and 2016-2018 MKX SUVs in August 2025. The rear brake jounce hose may rupture and leak fluid, extending stopping distance. The remedy is to replace damaged jounce hoses and adjust undamaged ones, free. Ford estimates about 1 percent of the recalled vehicles have a defective hose.
Here's the catch. Interim letters went out in September 2025, but Ford Authority reported in June 2026 that the final remedy had been delayed until at least September 2026. One 2017 Edge owner they spoke to paid $1,854 to fix a leaking rear hose himself and was told the dealer couldn't reimburse him because no remedy existed yet.
Signs of a leaking brake hose
- Pedal travels farther than normal, or feels lighter with each press
- Brake fluid reservoir level dropping
- Wet, oily residue on the inside of a wheel or tire
- Car pulls to one side when braking
- Brake warning light on the dash
RepairPal's brake hose page adds that hoses usually fail from age rather than mileage, often after about 100,000 miles, and that the system has to be bled after a hose is replaced.
What normal Edge brake work costs

| Brake pads (one axle) | 2015 | $274 to $331 |
| Brake pads (one axle) | 2020 | $274 to $331 |
| Brake pads (one axle) | 2021 | $283 to $340 |
| Brake pads (one axle) | 2022-2024 | $272 to $329 |
| Brake hose | 2015 | $142 to $215 |
| Brake hose | 2020-2021 | $185 to $258 |
| Brake hose | 2022-2024 | $173 to $240 |
| Recall hose work (20V469, 25V544) | 2015-2018 | $0 at a Ford dealer |
If a shop also recommends rotors, ask to see the measurement. Rotors are often worth replacing with pads on an older Edge, but not always.
If you already paid for a hose repair
Keep your receipt and the old parts if you can. Ford's recall reimbursement rules depend on the campaign and dates, and the 25V544 remedy timing has moved. Call Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and ask whether your repair qualifies for reimbursement under 25V544. Don't throw away the paperwork just because the dealer said no the first time.
Easy checks you can do
- Run your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls. It will show 20V469 or 25V544 if they're open.
- Look at the fluid reservoir under the hood. If it's below MIN, something is leaking or the pads are very worn.
- Peek behind the rear wheels with a flashlight for wet spots on the hoses or suspension.
- Listen for squealing (wear indicators) or grinding (metal on metal).
What to ask the shop
- "Are recalls 20V469 and 25V544 complete on my VIN?"
- "Is the leak at the hose, the caliper or a line?"
- "Are you quoting pads only, or pads and rotors? Can I see the rotor measurement?"
- "Will you flush and bleed the brake fluid after the hose replacement?"
- "If this is recall-related, can you document it for reimbursement?"
Is it worth fixing?
Yes. Brakes are never optional, and on a 2015-2018 Edge the hose part of the job may cost you nothing. Get the recall work done first, then handle pads and rotors at an independent shop if the dealer's price is high. For a car with a soft pedal, the right answer is a tow, not a test drive.
