The Yukon's AC is a big system with a lot of ways to fail. Some of them are cheap. The trick is not letting a shop sell you a compressor when the real problem is a fuse, a seal washer, or a wire pinched in the center console.
The weird one: AC dies with a check engine light (2021-2022)
GM TechLink published this in December 2021 for 2021-2022 Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon and Escalade. The AC may suddenly blow warm, and the check engine light may come on with codes B1AA3, U3018 and U3505.
The cause: circuit 4786, which powers the front floor console compartment lamp, can short and open BCM 2 fuse F4DR. In some cases two lamp wires near the console lid hinge get damaged and short together. The fix is a wiring repair at the hinge area, not an AC part.
Leaks at the condenser connection (2024-2025)
GM bulletin 24-NA-259 (November 2024) covers 2024-2025 GM passenger cars and light trucks with AC that isn't working or blows warm. The cause GM found: a leaking seal where the AC line connects to the condenser. Dealers are told to replace the condenser line seal washers (part 13579649) and re-torque the fitting to 16 lb-ft before replacing the condenser, when dye or a sniffer shows the leak at that block fitting.
That's a big deal on cost. A seal washer is a small part. A condenser on a 2023-2024 Yukon runs well over a thousand dollars at a shop.
It's blowing warm from the back only
Two separate issues show up here:
- Rear heat is cold at idle (2021-2025 Tahoe/Suburban, PIT6373). GM says air trapped in the rear heater core can make rear heat weak, especially at idle. Techs purge it with a vacuum fill. GM Authority's write-up names the Chevy siblings. Ask your GMC dealer whether it applies to your Yukon.
- Heat intermittently stops (22-NA-248). On some Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon/Escalade units, a firmware mismatch can set codes B2B05/B2B06 for the temperature door motors. Actuators with a yellow paint dot get replaced.
Water on the driver's floor
NHTSA complaints from 2021 Yukon owners describe AC condensation draining into the driver's footwell. That's a drain problem, not a refrigerant problem, but it can cause mold. Separately, GM bulletin 20-NA-219 fixes a gurgling or sloshing noise from the sunroof drains on 2021 models with the sunroof. If your carpet is wet, have the dealer check both the AC drain and sunroof drains.
How to tell what's wrong
| Symptom | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| AC quit suddenly with warning lights | Blown fuse from console lamp wire short (2021-2022) |
| Cold at first, slowly gets warmer over weeks | Refrigerant leak (seals, condenser, lines) |
| Cool on the highway, warm at idle | Low charge, condenser airflow, or cooling fan |
| Loud grinding or squeal when AC kicks on | Compressor or clutch trouble |
| Air is cold but barely blowing | Blower motor or cabin air filter |
| One side warm, other side cold | Blend door actuator |
What it costs

Easy things to try first
- Replace the cabin air filter. A clogged filter makes the AC feel weak.
- Look at the condenser. It's in front of the radiator. Leaves, bugs and road debris block airflow.
- Listen for the cooling fans with the AC on. No fans, warm AC at idle.
- Check the fuses in the owner's manual if the AC died with warning lights.
What to ask the shop
- "Did you do a dye or sniffer test? Where exactly is the leak?"
- "Does TechLink's console lamp wiring issue or bulletin 24-NA-259 apply to my year?"
- "Can you replace just the seals instead of the whole condenser?"
- "Is this covered by my bumper-to-bumper warranty?"
Is it worth fixing?
Yes. A Yukon without AC is hard to sell and hard to live with. Most of the known 2021+ fixes are wiring, seals or a recharge. Even a compressor is a small fraction of the vehicle's value.
