A cracked screen is the most common phone repair, and the price comes down to two things: which iPhone you have and who fixes it. Here are Apple’s current prices for every model from the iPhone 11 to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, what independent shops charge, and how to decide.

What independent shops charge

Independent shops set their own prices, but they fall into clear bands by generation:

iPhone generationTypical independent price
iPhone 11 and older$60 – $130
iPhone 12, 13, 14$110 – $220
iPhone 15, 16, 17 (incl. Pro)$180 – $380

The low end usually means an aftermarket screen. The high end usually means a genuine or high-grade OLED panel. Want a number for your exact model? Our free repair cost estimator shows Apple’s price and the typical shop range side by side.

Apple or an independent shop?

Choose Apple if any of these apply:

  • Your iPhone is under warranty or AppleCare+ (screen repairs are $29)
  • You want a genuine Apple screen with Apple’s 90-day service guarantee
  • Face ID, True Tone and water resistance matter a lot to you

Choose a good independent shop if your iPhone is older and you want to keep costs down, or you need it back the same day. Before you agree, ask:

  • Is the screen genuine, high-grade OLED, or a cheaper LCD?
  • What warranty do you give on the part and the work?
  • Will True Tone and Face ID still work afterward?

How to avoid overpaying

  • Back up your iPhone before handing it over
  • Get a second quote if the first is over about $200
  • Ask whether the price includes parts and labor
  • If the phone is over four years old, run the numbers in our repair or replace calculator

Is it worth fixing?

For an iPhone 14 or newer, a screen repair is almost always worth it; the phone still has years of updates ahead. For an iPhone 11 or 12, a cheaper independent repair usually still makes sense, but paying Apple’s full price may not. If the battery is also worn, ask about doing both at once, since shops often discount the second repair while the phone is open.
