AppleCare+ changed a lot the last couple of years: unlimited accident repairs, monthly or yearly billing that keeps going until you cancel, and a new plan called AppleCare One that covers a bunch of devices at once. Here’s what it costs now and whether it’s worth it for you.
What it costs
Apple’s US prices for AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss:
| iPhone | Monthly | Yearly |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone Duo | $19.99 | $199.99 |
| iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, iPhone Air | $14.99 | $149.99 |
| iPhone 17, iPhone 16 | $12.99 | $129.99 |
| iPhone 17e | $10.99 | $109.99 |
What you pay when stuff breaks
It’s not free repairs. You still pay a fee each time, but it’s a fraction of Apple’s normal prices.
| What happened | With AppleCare+ | Without (iPhone 18 Pro Max) |
|---|---|---|
| Cracked screen | $29 | $379 |
| Cracked back glass | $29 | $159 |
| Water or other damage | $99 | $899 |
| Worn battery (under 80%) | $0 | $129 |
| Lost or stolen | $149 | A whole new phone |
There’s no limit on accident repairs. Lost or stolen claims are capped at two every 12 months, and Find My has to be on.
The break-even math
Say you’ve got an iPhone 18 Pro Max on the yearly plan, $149.99:
- Nothing breaks all year: you spent $149.99 on peace of mind.
- You crack the screen once: $149.99 + $29 = $178.99, vs. $379 without it. You’re about $200 ahead.
- It takes a swim: $149.99 + $99 = $248.99, vs. $899. You’re about $650 ahead.
So if there’s a decent chance you’ll crack a screen this year (be honest), AppleCare+ comes out ahead.
AppleCare One: for Apple households
If you’ve got a bunch of Apple stuff, AppleCare One can beat buying separate plans:
- Individual: $19.99 a month for up to three devices, plus $5.99 a month for each extra one, including stuff you already own
- Family: $49.99 a month for every eligible device in your Family Sharing group, up to six people
Same accident coverage, with theft and loss for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.
Get it if…
- You’ve cracked a phone before, or you go caseless
- You bought a Pro Max, an iPhone Air or an iPhone Duo, where repairs hurt the most
- You keep phones three years or more. The free battery swap alone is worth $99 to $129
Skip it if…
- Your carrier plan or credit card already covers your phone
- You always use a solid case and screen protector and have never broken a phone
- You upgrade every year anyway
