The sixth-generation RAV4 launched for 2026, and it's hybrid or plug-in hybrid across the board. Tire sizes changed from the old model, so don't just reorder what you had on a 2024. Here's the current lineup.

Alignment and other costs

RepairPal estimates a RAV4 wheel alignment at $244 to $358 for 2021-2025 models. It doesn't list 2026 yet, so treat that as a ballpark for the new one. Get an alignment with new tires, after a hard pothole or curb hit, or if the SUV pulls.

Repair or replace? (the nail question)

  • Nail or screw in the main tread, away from the edge: usually fixable with a proper inside patch-plug.
  • Puncture in the shoulder or sidewall: replace. It can't be safely repaired.
  • Bulge, bubble or cut in the sidewall: replace right away.
  • Tread at 2/32 inch: NHTSA says that's when tires are no longer safe. Use the penny test: Lincoln's head upside down, and if you see the top of his head, it's time.
  • Tires 6 to 10 years old: NHTSA notes some makers recommend replacing by age.

AWD and mismatched tires

Most RAV4s are AWD. Mixing very different tread depths on one axle, or across the vehicle, can make an AWD system work harder than it should. If one tire is ruined early, ask the shop whether you should replace two (or all four) based on how worn the others are, and follow Toyota's guidance in your owner's manual.

Easy ways to make tires last

  • Check pressure monthly when cold. The door jamb label gives the right number, per NHTSA.
  • Rotate every 5,000 to 8,000 miles if Toyota recommends it (NHTSA's general range), or sooner if you see uneven wear.
  • Take the TPMS light seriously. NHTSA says it means at least one tire is significantly low.
  • Check for tire recalls on NHTSA's site using the tire brand and size.

What to ask the tire shop

  • "What's the out-the-door price for four?"
  • "Does this tire match the load index and speed rating on my door label?"
  • "Do you repair punctures with a patch-plug from the inside, or just a plug?"
  • "Are rotations included, and is there a road hazard plan?"

Is it worth it?

Yes. A RAV4 is a long-term keeper for most owners, and the right tires make it quieter, safer and more efficient. Buy quality, keep the pressures right, rotate on schedule.
