The Flip8 starts at $1,199.99, so it's nice that Samsung posts its screen prices up front and they're a small slice of that. Still, you'll want to know which screen you've broken and which repair to ask for.

Which screen is broken?

  • Inner (main) screen: the 6.9-inch folding display. A soft crease is normal. Lines, black blobs, flicker or a split along the fold are not.
  • Cover screen: the 4.1-inch screen on the outside. It's the most exposed part of the phone when it's closed, so it takes most of the drops.

Samsung notes that prices vary by region and authorized store and exclude taxes and fees, and that foldable screen repair is done through mail-in (log into your Samsung account to start one). Batteries Plus lists the Flip8 but had no Flip8 repair prices when we checked.

Screen Repair or the full module?

The $249 Screen Repair replaces the folding screen only, and Samsung won't do it on a phone with a bent or broken frame or a swelling battery. The $359 Screen Module Replacement swaps the screen, frame and battery together. If the phone has been dropped hard or the battery is getting weak, the extra $110 gets you a lot more new hardware.

Why DIY is a bad idea here

Folding screens are thin, flexible and glued in. On last year's Flip7, JerryRigEverything couldn't remove the inner panel without damaging it, and noted it should only be removed with the utmost care. The cover display came off without trouble in that teardown, but it's still a heat-and-adhesive job. Independent shops treat foldables as hard jobs (think around $150 labor before the part), so Samsung's posted prices are usually the safer and simpler route.

Dust in the hinge

Like the Fold8, the Flip8 is rated IP48. That protects against solid objects 1 mm and up, not fine dust or sand. If yours starts crunching or won't fold smoothly, mention it when you book the repair, since a damaged hinge can come with the inner screen job.

Things to check first

  • Back up the phone. Foldable repairs often go out by mail.
  • Force restart (hold side and volume down) if a screen went black after a drop.
  • Check for Care+ in your Samsung account. Samsung allows adding it within 60 days of purchase.
  • Peel off any third-party protector on the cover screen to see if the glass underneath is actually cracked.

What to ask before you pay

  • Is the inner screen quote for the screen alone or the full module?
  • Is the hinge checked or replaced?
  • What's the turnaround? (Samsung lists 5 to 7 business days for mail-in module repairs.)
  • What warranty covers the new parts?

Buying a used Flip8

Open it fully and look at the whole inner screen, especially along the fold. Then run a free IMEI check to confirm the model and lost-or-stolen status, and use its guided steps to check carrier lock, Google lock and replaced parts.

Is it worth fixing?

Yes. A $129 cover screen or $249 inner screen on a $1,199.99 phone is a clear win, and $29 with Care+ is even better. Go for the $359 module if the frame is bent or the battery is fading.
