The Fold7 launched in July 2025 with a 4,400mAh battery, 25W wired charging and 15W wireless. Like every Fold, the capacity is split across two cells, one in each half of the phone. Samsung's parts store lists them as EB-BF966 (main) and EB-BF967 (sub).

For context on Samsung's own pricing, The Droid Guy's April 2026 roundup listed Samsung's mail-in battery fee at $149 for the Fold5 and $169 for the Fold6, with a 5 to 7 business day turnaround. The Fold7 isn't on that list, so ask Samsung for your own quote, but it gives you a reasonable expectation.

Is it the battery?

  • Settings > Battery > Battery information shows health and cycle count where Samsung enables it.
  • Samsung Members > Support > Phone diagnostics gives Normal, Weak or Bad. Weak or Bad is your signal.
  • Check app usage. One stuck app can drain 20% overnight.
  • Watch for heat. A phone that's warm while sitting idle usually has a software problem, not a worn battery.

Easy things to try first

  • Update to the latest software and restart.
  • Turn on battery protection in Settings > Battery so it stops charging at a lower level and wears slower.
  • Lower the inner screen refresh rate or brightness if you live on the big screen. It's a big panel and it drinks power.
  • Use a proper charger. The Fold7 tops out at 25W wired, so a weak old cable or brick makes charging feel broken when it isn't.

Why DIY is risky

Getting to both cells on a Fold means working around the hinge and, on recent Folds, the cover screen. In iFixit's teardown of the newer Galaxy Z Fold8, reaching one battery meant removing the fragile outer screen, and iFixit rated that phone 4 out of 10 for repairability. Samsung's US self-repair page lists a manual for the Fold6 but not the Fold7 yet. A cracked cover screen costs $139 at Samsung, which would wipe out any savings from doing it yourself.

Warranty and Care+ timing

Samsung's standard US warranty is one year, so an early Fold7 bought at launch aged out this past summer. Samsung says Care+ can be added within a year of buying the phone, so that window has closed for launch buyers too. If you did add Care+, the battery is covered once diagnostics show 79% or less capacity. If you didn't, you're choosing between Samsung's quote, uBreakiFix (which offers a 1-year warranty on its work) and an independent shop. Ask each for a written quote that says whether both cells are included.

What to ask before paying

  • Will you replace both cells or just one? On a two-year-old phone, both usually makes sense.
  • Genuine Samsung cells or aftermarket?
  • If the cover screen breaks during the job, who pays?
  • What's the repair warranty?

Is it worth replacing?

Yes, if the rest of the phone is solid. Even at Samsung's likely price, a battery is a small fraction of what a new foldable costs, and the Fold7 still has years of updates ahead. If the inner screen is also damaged, compare with our Fold7 screen repair cost guide and the Galaxy Z Fold7 repair page before you decide.
