The Fold8 runs on two thin silicon-carbon cells, one in each half, for 4,800 mAh total (iFixit measured 18.68 Wh). It charges at up to 45W wired and 20W wireless. iFixit measured about 8.8% more capacity than the Fold7. Still, two years of heavy use will wear any battery down.

Why a Fold8 battery is a bigger job than it sounds

There's good news and bad news from iFixit's teardown. The good: Samsung used pull-tab adhesive, so the cells come out without solvent or heavy prying. iFixit called that a genuine repair win. The bad: to reach the cells, you go through the outer display, which is stuck down with very strong adhesive. iFixit put it bluntly, saying a consumable part shouldn't require putting another high-value part at that much risk.

That's why we don't recommend DIY on this one. Crack the cover screen while getting in, and your battery job just picked up a $139 screen bill.

Check your Fold8 battery health

  • Open Samsung Members and go to Support.
  • Tap Get started under Phone diagnostics.
  • Tap Battery status when it's done.

You'll get Normal, Weak or Bad. Samsung says Bad means battery life has significantly degraded and it's time for service.

Battery, or something else?

  • Battery: shutdowns at 15% to 20%, big drops in cold weather, fast standby drain.
  • Software: drain that started after an update or new app. Check Settings > Battery, update apps and restart.
  • Urgent: a screen lifting, the hinge area bulging, or the phone not closing flat. That can be swelling.

Smart way to time it

If you have Care+, run the Samsung Members test every few months and file the claim once you hit 79% or less. If your inner screen is also showing wear or damage, the $579 module job is the most efficient fix, since it replaces the screen, frame and battery together.

What to ask the shop

  • Are both cells being replaced, and are they genuine Samsung?
  • How do they protect the cover screen while opening it?
  • Is the phone resealed?
  • What's the warranty?

Buying a used Fold8

Battery wear and screen condition are the two big hidden costs. Run a free IMEI check to confirm the model and lost-or-stolen status, then follow its guided steps to check battery health and replaced parts on the phone.

Is it worth it?

For a $1,899 phone, yes. A new battery is the cheapest way to get another couple of years out of it. Go through Samsung or an authorized shop rather than risking the cover screen. If the phone is still in its first year and the battery is failing early, ask Samsung about the standard warranty before paying.
