The iPhone 11 Pro has a 5.8-inch OLED Super Retina XDR display. It was a gorgeous screen in 2019 and it still looks great. But this phone is now seven years old, and $279 for a genuine screen is a big chunk of what the whole phone is worth. So the cheaper options deserve a serious look here.
Apple's prices for the iPhone 11 Pro
| Repair | Apple price | With AppleCare+ |
|---|---|---|
| Screen | $279 | $29 |
| Battery | $89 | $0 (under 80% health) |
| Other damage (includes back glass) | $549 | $99 |
Notice there's no separate back glass price. Apple's estimator for the 11 Pro lists only screen, battery and other damage, so a cracked back falls into that $549 bucket.
Your three screen options
| Screen type | Typical installed price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Aftermarket LCD (incell) | $60 to $100 | Cheapest. Dimmer, thicker borders, no true blacks, uses more battery |
| Aftermarket OLED | $90 to $150 | Close to the original look with true blacks. Colors and brightness can differ slightly |
| Genuine Apple | $279 at Apple | Original quality, all features, Apple repair warranty |
LCD: Works, but it's a visible step down from the original OLED. Blacks turn gray, borders get thicker and it uses more power. Good for a backup phone or a kid's first phone.
Aftermarket OLED: For a daily phone you're keeping a year or two, this is usually the right answer. You keep true blacks and most of the original look for about half of Apple's price.
Genuine: Best quality, and Apple does the whole job. Makes sense if you have AppleCare+, or if the rest of the phone is in great shape and you plan to keep it a long time.
The "Unknown Part" message
The iPhone 11 lineup was the first to track the display in Settings > General > About > Parts and Service History. If a shop installs a non-genuine screen, it'll show up there as an Unknown Part. Apple says Unknown parts generally don't affect how the phone works, but it can affect trade-in value. On a phone this old, trade-in value is already low, so most people don't mind.
True Tone may stop working with a non-genuine screen unless the shop moves the data from your old screen. Ask before they start.
Is it the screen, or something else?
- Cracked glass, picture and touch fine: simple screen replacement.
- Lines, flicker or black blotches: the OLED panel is damaged. Same fix.
- Black screen but the phone makes sounds: could be the screen or the connector. Have it tested first.
- Face ID broken after the fall: that's a separate component. Mention it before the repair so you're not blamed for it later.
- Phone won't turn on at all: could be the battery or the logic board. Don't pay for a screen until someone confirms the phone powers up.
Should you even fix it?
Probably, if it's just the screen. The iPhone 11 Pro still runs iOS 27, so it's getting updates. A $90 to $150 OLED repair is a lot cheaper than a new phone. If the battery is also worn out, do both at once: battery runs $89 at Apple or about $69 to $109 at a shop.
If the screen is cracked and the back is shattered and the battery is dead, that's when to stop. Read is the iPhone 11 Pro worth fixing in 2026 for the full math. All prices are on the iPhone 11 Pro repair page.
