P0755: Shift Solenoid "B"

The transmission computer has found a problem with shift solenoid B, another of the valves that control gear changes.

SeriousKBB says it is not a good idea. The transmission can get stuck in gear or lose certain gears, which is dangerous on the road.

What P0755 means

P0755 is the solenoid B version of P0750. RepairPal explains that shift solenoid B typically handles the 2-3 shift on many transmissions by redirecting fluid to move shift valves, and that P0755 sets when the computer does not see the expected RPM change during a commanded shift. It can also set for an electrical fault in the solenoid circuit. When solenoid B is not working, the transmission may skip gears, refuse to shift past a certain gear or go into limp mode. KBB warns that the vehicle may get stuck in gear, which is dangerous on the road. Common causes are a failed solenoid, wiring and connector problems, low or dirty fluid and a worn valve body. When more than one solenoid code appears at once, shops suspect the shared power feed, connector or internal harness first. Diagnosis includes measuring solenoid resistance, commanding the solenoid with a scan tool and checking fluid condition before deciding on solenoid, valve body or harness repair.

Common symptoms

Most common causes

  1. Failed shift solenoid B
  2. Wiring or connector problem
  3. Low or contaminated transmission fluid
  4. Valve body problem
  5. Transmission control module fault

What to check yourself first

Check fluid level and condition. Inspect the transmission connector for oil or corrosion. If both P0750 and P0755 are set, a shared power feed or connector problem is more likely than two failed solenoids.

Typical fixes and what they cost

FixTypical costNote
Transmission filter and fluid service$621-$785Solenoid work is often done with a pan and filter service.
Electrical diagnosis to find a wiring or connector fault$122-$179For connector or wiring faults.
Transmission fluid change$294-$356Low or burnt fluid causes many transmission codes. Check the correct fluid type for your transmission.
Replace transmission control module$929-$1,006Only after the solenoid and wiring test good.

Typical US price ranges for parts and labor, not quotes. Your shop should confirm the cause with a diagnostic before replacing parts.
