The iPhone 11 came out in 2019. In phone years, that's ancient. And yet a lot of them are still out there working fine, mostly because Apple keeps updating them. So the real question isn't whether it's old. It's whether the thing that's broken costs more than the phone has left to give.

What repairs cost on an iPhone 11

RepairAppleWith AppleCare+Typical shop
Battery$89$0$69 – $109
Cracked screen$199$29$60 – $110
Other damage$399$99Quoted case by case

Apple's other damage price is for problems beyond a screen or battery, like a bent frame or damage after a drop that affects more than one part. It's the number that usually tips the scales toward replacing.

The update question

Apple's iOS 27 still supports the iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max. Before it launched, some leakers expected the iPhone 11 to get dropped, but it made the cut. That's good news for anyone fixing one today.

The catch: the iPhone 11 is now one of the oldest phones on the list, and Apple hasn't said how long it'll keep going. It also doesn't get Apple Intelligence, which needs an iPhone 15 Pro or newer. If you want those features, no repair will add them.

Is it really broken? Check this first

  • Battery: Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging. Under 80% Maximum Capacity means it's worn out. Apple designs batteries in the iPhone 14 and earlier to hold about 80% after 500 full cycles.
  • Slowness: If you see performance management applied under Peak Performance Capability, the phone shut down unexpectedly and iOS is slowing it down to protect it. A new battery usually fixes that.
  • Storage: Settings > General > iPhone Storage. A nearly full 64GB iPhone 11 feels slow no matter what battery it has. Clearing old videos is free.
  • Charging: If it won't charge, try another cable and clean lint out of the Lightning port with a wooden toothpick before you assume the worst.

Fix it or replace it: real scenarios

Say your iPhone 11's battery is at 76% and everything else works. Fix it. $89 at Apple, or a bit less at a shop, and it feels close to new again.

Say the screen is cracked but the battery is fine. Fix it, especially at a shop for $60 to $110. Our iPhone 11 screen cost guide covers what to ask.

Say the screen is cracked and the battery is at 75%. At Apple that's $199 + $89 = $288. At a shop it's roughly $129 to $219. This is the gray zone. If you love the phone and just need it to work, a shop doing both is a fair deal. If you were already eyeing an upgrade, this is your sign.

Say it took a hard fall and Apple quotes other damage at $399. Replace it. That's a lot to put into a seven-year-old phone when newer used iPhones are out there.

Water damage changes the math

The iPhone 11 is rated IP68 up to 2 meters for 30 minutes, but Apple notes that resistance decreases with normal wear. A seven-year-old seal isn't what it used to be. If your phone took a swim and now acts strange, fixing one part often uncovers another. That's usually a replace.

Before you hand it over (or trade it in)

  • Back up to iCloud or a computer.
  • Know your Apple Account password. You'll need it to turn off Find My before a trade-in.
  • Ask any shop which parts they use, since the iPhone 11 records non-genuine screens and batteries as Unknown in Parts and Service History.

The verdict

One repair under about $110 at a shop, or Apple's $89 battery: worth it, as long as the phone is otherwise healthy. Two repairs at once: it depends on how much longer you want it. Anything near $399: put that money toward something newer.
