The iPhone 13 is one of the most common used iPhones out there right now, so a cracked one is super common too. The big decision isn’t really where to go. It’s which screen goes back in, because that changes the price more than anything else.

What Apple charges

These are Apple’s own out-of-warranty prices for the iPhone 13, straight from its price tool.

RepairApple priceWith AppleCare+
Cracked screen$279$29
Screen and back glass$499$58
Battery$89Free under 80% health
Back glass$399$29

Apple puts in a genuine screen and the repair comes with Apple’s 90-day service guarantee. That’s the gold standard. It’s also the priciest way to do it.

Your three screen options

The iPhone 13 came with an OLED screen. When a shop replaces it, you’re picking one of these:

ScreenTypical priceWhat you get
Aftermarket LCD$60 – $100Cheapest. Dimmer, thicker black border around the edge, and it uses more battery
Aftermarket OLED$100 – $170Looks a lot like the original, with true blacks. Colors can be slightly off
Genuine Apple$279 at AppleExactly what came in the phone

For most people keeping an iPhone 13 another year or two, an aftermarket OLED is the sweet spot. It looks right, and you save over $100 compared with Apple.

Will Face ID still work?

Yes. When the iPhone 13 first came out, a shop screen swap could knock out Face ID unless the tech moved a tiny chip from the old screen. Apple changed that with iOS 15.2, so a good shop screen replacement leaves Face ID working.

Two other things to know:

  • True Tone only works after a third-party repair if the shop transfers it from your old screen. Good shops do this; ask.
  • A non-genuine screen will show as an Unknown Part under Settings > General > About. The phone still works fine, but Apple says it can lower trade-in value.

Apple or a local shop?

Go to Apple if you have AppleCare+ ($29 is a no-brainer), if you plan to trade the phone in soon, or if you want zero surprises.

Go to a good shop if you’re paying out of pocket and want to keep the phone a while. Ask about the screen type, the warranty and True Tone before you hand it over.

Is it worth fixing an iPhone 13?

Usually, yes. The iPhone 13 still gets iOS updates and still feels quick, so $100 to $170 for a shop OLED screen gives it a real second life. If the battery is tired too, see our iPhone 13 battery guide. Shops often knock a bit off when they do both at once.
